Time-lapse for competitions in slow smoking

Pipe Club Nitra brings you a trial version of the program for organizing competitions in slow smoking: - Smoky.

The Program can be used for the complete management of the competition from the registration of participants, the display of hours through to the automatic printing of diplomas.

The flexibility of the programme allows it to be used for the smallest competitions (several contestants in one table) or the world championship competitions. The program was used in the evaluation of the European Championship in a slow smoke pipe in the year 2016 in Nitra.

Basic Features:

  • All contests are created and stored.
  • There is a database of competitors ' names for future use.
  • The system can hold Smoking Clubs in a database.
  • Team competition mode.
  • Registration of the tables and the assignment of those competing.
  • The possibility to apply for double competition with the automatic counting of times (competition of type 2 x 1.5 g of tobacco).
  • Language switching (currently Slovak and English).
  • Display of the clock, including the time countdown for the pipe filling.
  • Displaying the number of contestants with continuous numbers.
  • When the competition is complete, the time of the winner automatically appears on the computer.
  • Printing of Cards for Contestants - choose from 3 formats.
  • Printing of statistics.
  • Print a List of contestants at each table.
  • Printing of the result lists - sort by order or by state.
  • Printing of diplomas directly from the programme.
  • It is also possible to use a barcode scanner for optimised write-up of times which accelerates the process and reduces the error rate.
  • It is also possible to use a barcode scanner to get the competitor who has finished, and they can check their achieved time.

Basic components of the programme:

All contests are stored in the Access SmokeTimerDB database, which is used only to store data.

The functional logic of the program consists of two programs:

  • Smoke Timer - The main program.  If an integrated clock display is activated, this program is sufficient for small competitions to be used when only one monitor is available.
  • Smoke Timer Remote Screen - an additional program used to display and projection of clocks, as well as to check the Times achieved. It can run on the same computer as the main program or on other computers connected via LAN.

Example #1 -Small competition in 15 contestants

 1 computer, 1 monitor

Only the main program SmokeTimer is used and the database in which the integrated clock display is activated. One monitor is used for the program operator to insert the completed times, and also for competitors to display the clock.

When writing time, a barcode reader may be used to retrieve the starting number from the competitor card, thus speeding up the loading process and reducing the error rate.

Example #2: -mid-competition, up to 40 contestants

1 Computer, two monitors

A single computer uses SmokeTimer, which is used by the programme operator on one monitor, and is used for inserting times during the competition.  At the same time, the Smoke Timer remote screen starts on the same computer, which shows a large clock on the second monitor or projector.

When writing the time, a barcode reader may be used to retrieve the starting number from the competitors card, thus speeding up the loading process and reducing the error rate.

Example #3: -Great competition, 100 contestants

1 computer, monitor + projector

A single computer uses SmokeTimer, which is used by the programme operator on one monitor, and is used for inserting times during the competition.  At the same time, the Smoke Timer remote screen starts on the same computer, which shows a large clock on the second monitor or projector.

When writing the time, a barcode reader may be used to retrieve the starting number from the competitors card, thus speeding up the loading process and reducing the error rate.

Example #4: -Championship competition of European and world level

2 or more computers connected to the LAN, monitors, projector

  • A single computer uses SmokeTimer, which is used by the programme operator on one monitor, and is used for inserting times during the competition.
  • The second counting will launch the Smoke Timer remote screen, which displays large lessons on the second monitor or projector for contestants and Stewarders
  • One or more other computers can be used for contestants who have completed the contest. Since competitors who have completed the competition must leave the competition room, this computer may be located in another room (e.g. lobby) and the contestants can check the time, numbers of competitors. You can also get your label in the barcode reader, and check to see if they have the correct time.
